New waterproof rugged cameras coming in 2011

A waterproof/shockproof camera is what I am looking for when I purchase a camera for Tegan to use during the trip to New Zealand. I think she will like the fact that most of these cameras coming in shocking bright colours that are suppose to reflect the adventurous type of use they are intended for. I only wish I had news from Pentax, Canon and Nikon on their new lines of rugged cameras if any. Here is a taste of what I dug up from the CES show in Las Vegas. I wasn't actually there... just researched online.



From Fujifilm there are 2 new rugged cameras available.The FinePix XP20 ($200) adds 1.5m shockproof, 5m waterproof, freeze-proof to -10°C and dust/sand-proof. It has a 14MP sensor, 5x wide-angle zoom lens (28-140mm equivalent) and 2.7-inch scratchproof LCD. Other notable features include quick uploading to Facebook and YouTube, built-in movie editing, motion panorama, intelligent scene recognition, tracking auto focus and sensor-shift image stabilization. The FinePix XP30 ($230) adds built-in GPS for geo-tagging photos.








Olympus' Tough series is back with 2 new models that should arrive in Canada sometime in February; the TG-310 and TG-610 (shown at right) both have 14MP sensors, 720p HD video capability, HDMI connectors, HDMI control (playback can be controlled by the TV remote), Eye-Fi card compatibility, and sensor-shift image stabilization.


Priced at $200, the TG-310 has a 3x wide-angle zoom lens (28-102mm equivalent) and 2.7-inch LCD; it's waterproof to 3m.

Priced at $300, the TG610 has a 5x wide-angle zoom lens (28-140mm equivalent) and three-inch 920,000-dot high-resolution LCD; it's waterproof to five metres. The TG-610 is available in black, red and silver. Both cameras are shockproof 1.5m and freeze-proof to -10°C.




 Sony new linup includes the DSC-TX10 a waterproof 5m, dust proof, shock proof 1.5m and freeze-proof -10C 16.2 megapixel “Exmor R” CMOS sensor camera.  It has a 3-inch (7.5cm) wide LCD with touch screen for easy focus selection and photo viewing, 1080i Movie records high-quality Full HD movies, 3D still image and 3D Sweep Panorama modes. Pricing in at around $350
