Day 14 – Napier farmers market

Today we decided to go back into Napier to fetch some breakfast and groceries, only to find that a small farmers market was happening.  We ditched the campervan and walked towards the area that the market was happening.  Tegan wanted the Belgian waffles at first but couldn’t decide on what topping to have on them.  Further down the lane she spotted a breakfast truck and ended up having what was a really delicious omelette.  Only she was drawn into the Maori dancers performing and left me waiting for her omelette and eventually left me holding her hot and cooling omelette in my hand while she was performing.  I knew leaving the camera in the campervan was a bad idea and in conclusion we have no photos from this day.  Tegan was informed they were making Poi balls the following day and I told her we would make it back for her to do this activity.

We went for a walk around town and hunting for a replacement fleece top for the one she left her in Napier but wasn’t recovered a week later on our return.  We stopped into a fantastic toy store in a mall that had the best toys I have seen in a while.  We will have to return there later and maybe get a present for Elliot’s birthday.  We exited the mall with the toy store and came out onto another street south of where we entered.  Across the street were Japanese ladies in kimonos and teaching kids to create origami cranes.  I left Tegan here to make a crane while I scoped out a couple of shops for a fleece top.  Luckily the winter styles were all in clearance and we snagged a nice fleece top for $35.  Tegan is now happy and warm again.  Oh, she made a great little crane, but immediately unfolded it when we got into the van and that was that.  We got some groceries, arranged to meet up with Shane, our kiwi friend from home’s brother, for the All Blacks game against France.

The game was exciting for the first 20 minutes and then the excitement faded a little when nothing seemed to be happening, one way or the other.  The score was well in favour of New Zealand and there was happiness found in that.   We headed home tired and ready for the next day and daylight savings time, have to rise earlier now for the hangi meal preparation.
