Canada defeats France in New Zealand Sevens

Canada just posted their first win at the New Zealand International Sevens tournament!

The final score was 19-14 for Canada.  Canada lead it from the start and never dropped the lead.

Fantastic job guys.  I really needed that.  Now we just have to beat France at the Rugby World Cup and we can say we own them!


And South Africa can thank us for helping them out in the tournament!

Canada downed 38-0 by Fiji in NZI Sevens

Fiji is a far superior team than Canada, that was a given.  But come on, not even a try! 

Hopefully the game against France will be a little better.  We need at least another try in the tournament! Let's go boys!!!

Canada off to dismal start at NZI Sevens

I was able to tune into a New Zealand sports radio broadcast of the New Zealand - Scotland game.  It sounded like New Zealand was pretty much in control the whole game.  I hope to actually view some of the sevens soon in an online delayed stream. 

So Canada was upset 31-5 against South Africa on the opening game for Canada at the New Zealand International Sevens.  South Africa was probably outplaying Canada for most of the game, unfortunately.  Possession is so important in rugby sevens and I bet SA kept ball in hand for a large portion of the game. I am disappointed to know that the boys could only manage one try though.  However, this is the first showing of Canada at the IRB Sevens World Series this year.  Canada did not play at the Dubai or South Africa Sevens tournaments.

Canada play Fiji in about 30 minutes.Fiji being the reigning NZI Sevens champs, it will be a nasty looking game from our side of things I am sure.  Good Luck Boys, you need it!

Dog River Howlers Fundraiser Diner January 28, 2011

The Howlers have been invited to participate in the USA / Las Vegas Sevens Tournament that runs on the 12th and 13th of February.  Following the Howlers Senior Men's side down to Las Vegas is an U-18 Side, both competing in the Elite Team Tournament which precedes the International HSBC World Series event.

On January 28th, 2011 at Buchanan's Chop House & Whisky Bar there will be a night of single malt whisky and great food accompanied by many of the Senior Howlers players.  Tickets for the event are $125 each, this gives you six whiskies and a five course meal.   This is a fundraiser event for the Howlers with Silent and standard auctions taking place during the evening.
