So Pentax finally releases their 12th generation of their rugged camera.
This waterproof beauty is now the replacement for the w90 released last year.
The new Optio WG-1 and Optio WG-1 GPS cameras ahve a 14 megapixel sensor, 5× optical zoom, and a 2.7-inch display.
The cameras both capture high-definition 720p video at 30 frames per second.
Both models are waterproof up to 10 meters (33 feet), shockproof for falls up to 1.5m (5 feet), and sport a new crushproof construction that should let them handle blows up to 220 pounds of force.
The cameras can handle temperatures down to -10°C (about 14°F), and they are dustproof.
The WG-1 will come in black or purple and compares well with the other rugged cameras announced this year. The price will be set at $349.95 USD for the WG-1.
Face-smile-and-blink detection and a self-portrait mode are now included. The cameras also sport a digital microscope mode with five macro LEDS for solid macro photography lighting, along with a detachable macro stand.
The WG-1 GPS will be offered in Black and Green and priced at $399.95 USD. The GPS tracks and records positional data recording with images for geo-tagging applications making it easy for users to check the shooting locations of captured images and link the data with PC-based maps.
Both cameras will ship in April 2011.
Conclusion
So, I was holding out for this camera given that I thought it would include the intervalometer that was a main feature in the W90. I might have to stick with the Pentax Optio W90 for my daughter Tegan. I am really let down by this news. I was looking forward to this camera release from Pentax, sorry to hear it isn't the camera for us.
