Springboks RWC 2011 jersey launch

Canterbury and the South African Rugby Union launched the most technically advanced rugby jersey to be worn by the Springboks team during the Rugby World Cup 2011 held in New Zealand this fall.

Earlier this year I posted on the unveiling of the RWC 2011 jersey for South Africa and there are a few differences between the earlier jersey and this jersey.  The Rugby World Cup 2011 and the Protea are located lower and just below the Canterbury logo.  The 4 raised panels on the front of the jersey are new features.  And the Springboks logo on the sleeve seems to be smaller and includes the "Springboks" name under the logo, on the other sleeve the Webb Ellis trophy and dates 1995 and 2007, the years that the Springboks have won the RWC are still there but again it seems a little smaller to the originally released jersey in April.

This is the strongest jersey that Canterbury has produced thus far and features refinements that will actually help Bok players evade tackles.

Chris Stephenson, Canterbury CEO, commented: “The new kit is our most sophisticated to date and as always, we have relished the challenge to release a tougher yet lighter jersey that will be showcased at this year’s Rugby World Cup.  We are proud to be associated with South Africa throughout the Rugby World Cup and it is our privilege to support them in the best way we can, with what we believe is the best jersey a player can wear. We look forward to seeing them in action in New Zealand later this year.”

Jurie Roux, CEO of SARU, said: “The Springboks were extensively involved in the design of the jersey and in its testing and assessment of its epical features and they were more than happy with the outcome. A rugby jersey is one of the key tools of a player’s trade and having one that works to give them that fractional advantage on the field is another way of maximising their ability to perform.”

Fans have their opportunity to purchase the RWC 2011 jersey from www.canterburysa.co.za as well as selected retailers. This also includes the new national jersey featuring the new Springboks sponsor, ABSA.
